Surrounded by nature but still highly modern: our "outpost" in Hoppstädten-Weiersbach lies in a very rural area, but it is a part of the Umweltcampus (Eco Campus) Birkenfeld, a branch of Trier University.
This "Zero Emission University" is unique within Europe and boasts, beside an ecologic construction plan, carbon neutral energy and heat supply as well as highly modern building and installation engineering. It hosts 2.700 young people within eleven bachelor, three dual bachelor and eleven master degree programs; 14 research institutes and competence centers work on subjects like sustainability, future technologies and new media.
Besides auditoriums, library, institutes, cafeteria and dormitory, the campus is home to companies - mainly smaller ones and start-ups from the technology and IT sectors, but also doctor's practices, a physiotherapy facility, a conference hotel or a rope course. For our co-workers there, our branch in Hoppstädten-Weiersbach, in addition to all the pleasant neighbors, mainly means being close to home: they come from that region, partly even studied at the Eco Campus. Once a week, they make for our headquarters in Frankfurt - as even in our line of work, some things are better resolved face-to-face than per ticket system, collaboration software and video conference.
Far but close
111 miles separate our office in the city of Frankfurt from the one in Hoppstädten-Weiersbach. That either means an almost two hour drive past Mainz and Kaiserslautern, but also past places like Kirchheimbolanden, Erbes-Büdesheim oder Theisbergstegen, right until the boarder between Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Luckily, there is a train station a mere few hundred meters from the Eco Campus, from where the Hoppstädten colleagues can travel from A to B by regional express train in about two hours as well. Occasionally, we Frankfurt-based people venture out to "Silicon Weiersbach", too - then usually packed with meat to be barbecued and in a festive mood.
Our "green Satellite" has much to offer. Beautiful nature, great office infrastructure, but also easy access to world class ice cream - Venezia Icecream Parlour actually was in the final round of the 2014 Gelato World Championship - or a newly certified national park. We have assembled all our personal local favorites in a map. Have a click!
