aiticon summer celebration 2015A Team Trip to Indulgence

Tender meat, bonfire romance, Arcadian hiking trails, picturesque castle ruins, officially "world class" ice cream, an exciting finale and presents to top it all off: this year's aiticon summer party was simply fabulous.

On Thursday afternoon - having completed our daily tasks a little faster than usual - we Frankfurt colleagues made our way to our "Outpost" in Hoppstädten-Weiersbach, where our teammates Matthias Müller and Claus Stümke had already been busy: Over the fireplace made of the finest beech wood, the barbecue grate was already swinging merrily back and forth.

On it, the professionally and traditionally prepared local specialty of "Hunsrücker Spießbraten" (note: asking a local about what exactly that is might end in an emotional description of how everybody else is getting the idea of barbecue all wrong).

Santa in Summer

Just enough time for our managing director Matthias Herlitzius to play Santa: each of us now calls their own a hand and a beach towel in white and orange, boasting our application platform appNG's logo.

Friday morning, we travelled to Hotel Forellenhof in a village called Bundenbach, again organized by our "locals". There, we should find not only a magnificent terrace, but an opulent buffet breakfast, too. Newly fed, we set out for the twelve kilometer hike along the "Traumschleife Hahnenbachtal", a trail that was voted most beautiful hiking trail in Germany in 2012 (and rightly so, as we were about to find out).

The ruins of the medieval castle Schmidtburg - here from afar - were one of the highlights on our hiking trip.

We came across impressive shale rock formations, a Celtic settlement and the ruins of the medieval castle Schmidtburg - and in the process, got pretty hungry again. Time until dinner seemed awfully long, so we bridged the gap at "Venezia" ice cream parlour in Birkenfeld: It had been in the 2014 Gelato World Championship's final round - must be some truth about that, as Germany's most trusted newspaper "Bild Zeitung" had written about it. Yummy it was, anyways.

What a Finale

After a little digestive rest, we were all set for our final dinner in the cozy shadows of Wendelinus Basilica in St. Wendel. If it hadn't been obvious all along, one thing became crystal clear now: Not only our boss meant well with us, but so did Petrus. After nothing but sunshine and highly comfortable temperatures for the preceding one and a half days, storm clouds started approaching during our dinner. Just as we had swallowed the last bite and asked for the check, a powerful gust of wind blew a massive sunshade several meters through the air. We quickly fled to safety from that and glasses flying around - an exciting end to a most perfect party.
